Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 20, 2026
The short version.
- We collect only what the app needs to put you in a room with your crew.
- No ads. No tracking. We never sell your data.
- Your answer about what you struggle with is private. Your crew never sees it.
- You can delete your account in the app at any time.
This policy covers the Deskmates app for iPhone and Android and this website (deskmates.iteratim.io). "We" means the Deskmates team at iteratim.io. Questions: support@iteratim.io.
What we collect
You give us
- Email address, to send you sign-in codes. Your crew does not see it.
- First name, shown to your crew.
- Work type and work line (for example "Freelance · Booking app"), shown to your crew.
- Your answer to "what makes working alone hard", and any words you add to it. This is private: it picks the tips we show you and helps us understand what to build. Your crew never sees it.
- Your deskmate character (avatar), shown to your crew.
- Check-ins: what you're working on, what you're stuck with, and your pose (working, need a hand, celebrating), shown to your crew for that day.
- Room chat messages, shown to your crew.
- Reports you send about a person or a message, and the people or messages you hide.
Created as you use the app
- Visits: when you sit down in the room, when you leave, and whether you are away (app in the background or phone locked). Your crew sees whether you're at your desk and how long you've been there today.
- Push token: an identifier for this device, so we can send you a heads-up when someone in your crew sits down. Only if you turn notifications on.
- Time zone, read from your phone, to work out "today" and to show your crew your city and local time (for example "New York · 9:40").
- The date you agreed to these terms, and which crew and seat you're in.
We don't collect your contacts, location, photos, microphone, camera, advertising ID, or any data from other apps. We don't use analytics or tracking tools in the app or on this website.
How we use it
- To run the app: sign you in, show your crew who's in the room, and deliver chat.
- To send the notifications you ask for, and the one reminder when you leave the room open.
- To keep the community safe: filter blocked words, and review reports.
- To understand, in aggregate, what people struggle with, so we know what to build.
We don't use your data for advertising, and we don't build profiles of you for anyone else.
Who sees it
- Your crew (up to five people) sees your name, work, character, check-ins, chat messages, and whether you're in the room. When you hide someone, you stop seeing them and their messages. They aren't told.
- We see reports and the reported content, to act on them.
- Service providers that run parts of Deskmates for us, under contract, and only to provide their service: Supabase (database and sign-in), Resend (sign-in code and report emails), Expo, Apple and Google (delivering notifications), Cloudflare (hosting this website), and Google Fonts (the font on this website, which receives your IP address when a page loads).
- Authorities, only when the law requires it.
We never sell or rent your data, and we never share it with advertisers or data brokers.
How long we keep it
We keep your data while you have an account. Visits left open are closed automatically after 4 idle hours. When you delete your account, we right away delete your email, profile, private answer, crew seat, check-ins, visits, hides and push tokens. Reports you sent stay with us for safety review, but no longer show who sent them. Reports about you, including a copy of a reported message and your name at the time, are also kept for safety review.
Chat messages you sent stay in your crew's chat so their conversation still makes sense, but they are no longer linked to you: they show as "Former deskmate".
Deleting your account
In the app, open your profile (tap your head in the room), then Account and Delete my account. If you can't reach the app, email support@iteratim.io from the address you signed in with and we'll delete it for you.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to delete it. Most of it you can edit in the app. Email support@iteratim.io and we'll answer within 30 days. Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK or California) you may have further rights, including complaining to your data protection authority.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit. Access to each crew's data is limited to its members by database rules. Invite links are stored only as one-way hashes. No system is perfectly secure, so tell us at support@iteratim.io if you find a problem.
Children
Deskmates is not for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above, and tell you in the app if the change is significant.
